URBANA, Illinois — Sarah Low will be the next chair of the Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economics in the College of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Since 2018, Low has been an associate professor of regional economics and holder of the Fred V. Heinkel Professorship in Agriculture at the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources at the University of Missouri.
Previously, she was an economist at the Economic Research Service of the United States Department of Agriculture in Washington from 2008 to 2018.
Low is a national resource on rural and agricultural topics. As a researcher, her research portfolio focuses largely on rural and regional development using spatial analyzes and econometric methods, as well as entrepreneurship as a strategy for growing economies.
She has authored or co-authored 24 peer-reviewed journal articles and more than 30 policy or technical assistance publications.

Pending approval of his appointment to the full professor level of the ACE Department and approval of the administrative appointment by the Board of Trustees, Low will begin serving as Head of the ACE Department on August 16.
